I have also been working on palm muting and I have noticed that it is harder than I thought to get the sound right. I really have had to experiment with where to place my hands and how much pressure to do on the strings.

@Daphne Turnbull palm muting is an art in and of itself. it can be used all sorts of ways and depending how you change it up or move the position of palm it has different sounds. You just have to keep playing with it To find the sound you’re looking for. I’d bet @Nate Savage will give you some insight as well.
@Daphne Turnbull Hi Daphne. Thanks for posting this. At first, it can seem like palm muting is pretty straight forward. One position and it's done. That's not necessarily true though. There are a lot of different degrees of palm muting that you can use in different styles of music. I find that palm muting on the acoustic has even more levels of dynamics to pay with. I'm not sure if you've watched the Guitar Foundations video on palm muting but here it is for your reference.
