Happy 2021, Fam! I hope you were able to get some rest over the Christmas holiday and enjoyed ringing in the new year.
Any guitar goals for this year?
I've been wanting to get more into blues lead guitar. Because of covid I don't have any live bookings until September 2021, so my specific goal for that gig is to incorporate a guitar solo or riff into two of the songs for that performance.
What about you? What would you like to learn this year?
Feel free to post your progress, questions, struggles and successes in the "Personal Progress" thread so we can support you and cheer you on.
Blues, Blues & more Blues. Time to get it on!!!
Ain't that the truth @David Lieder . Blues is truly alive and well ! We need a Blues course on Guitar Fam , like, yesterday.
@Nate Savage @Chelsea Amber - no pressure 😀
We hear you and we definitely agree. :) That will be the next course after fingerstyle. Stay tuned!
I'd like to take my bar chords to the next level: being able to transition from an Open Chord to a Bar Chord within the body of the song. Tough stuff.
And yes, continue to improve my Fingerstyle playing.
Great goals!
I have not yet written down all of my goals so this list is still incomplete. But so far I picked the following things to work on in 2021:
Learn 24 new songs
Build up a lick library for each position of the Blues Scale
Learn to improvise over the 12-Bar-Blues-Progression while paying attention to what chord I'm playing over at any moment
Collaborate with my dad remotely and write at least 1 song together
In 2019 and 2020 I learned one song a month. This was always my favorite part of my practice routine. So this year I decided to double the amount. I also just got a new camcorder and I'm thinking about recording myself a lot more often :)
That's awesome! Looks like a lot of us will be learning the blues this year. :) Feel free to post your videos in our "Personal Progress" thread so we can cheer you on!
One of my goals is to get better at playing lead guitar which is something I actually began learning from Nate's guitar system course and lessons on the previous site he worked at. I've always solely played rhythm at every level of my playing and still enjoy it most.
For my lead studies, I learned all my pentatonic scales in all 5 positions; Major and Minor scales, chord arpeggios and the CAGED Chord scales relationship as well which I work on daily. Currently learning to hit the chord tones so that's another goal. ha!
That said and with rhythm guitar still being my primary focus. My main goal is to learn how to embellish chords with double stops, hammer ons, fills, trills and all else. Mixing rhythm and lead and getting better at playing triads all over the neck. Jimi Hendrix, John Mayer and old school R&B/Soul music studies are a huge part of that for me right now. Steve Cropper and Curtis mayfield are some other players I'm studying and listening to as well. :-)
It's great to hear what you're working on. Always inspiring! Looking forward to hearing the songs and techniques you learn this year.
