Here’s my latest escapades. I was contacted by a guy thru a website for musicians in search of Bands to join and vice versa this week. They are looking for a vocalists and having rhythm guitar skills is a plus. Funny thing is I did not have listed that i have singing skills; so not sure why he contacted me except I’m in the same area kinda.
Nevertheless we talked and agreed for me to join them for rehearsal this Sunday. He gave me a couple songs. Here is the first one, in my half finished JamCave.
Hey @David Lieder, let me make this point abundantly clear: you are positively, without question beyond any reasonable doubt whatsoever living a Rock and Roll Dream. Your new Rock Star lifestyle has my 100% endorsement!
Alrighty then. Here is the 2nd song for audition.
Cheatin’ Song
Practiced it a few time today between honey does. Only played around with it a bit last night. Then had to go to in-laws for dinner. Got back and recorded it right quick.
I’ll let ya know how audition goes. Should be fun. For sure will be educational no matter how it turns out.
Alrighty then. I’m in. The group that is. They invited me to continue to jam with them. They sent gave me another song last night to learn (Blue on Black- Kenny Wayne Shepard; i really like it) and then 5 more today. Talk about overload. I’ll get a feeling for most of them & Hopefully get a couple down good for next rehearsal this weekend.
Congrats!!! That's so awesome that you're in a group now!! That is a surefire way to stretch yourself with all these new songs to learn. If you ever get any footage of you playing with the band it would be cool to see. :)
I know you already text me on this but... Dood! Congratulations. I really think your playing is going to take off even more with this new group.
Brilliant mate, well done on your audition and keeps us updated on your jamcave, I prefer that name to man cave.
@David Congrats!
Very cool news! Also thanks for sharing your audition tapes with us well done!
Always great to seeing you pushing forward with your singing and guitar playing and learning all those songs will definitely push you even further ahead that's for sure! ha! lol So looking forward to seeing you rocking out the new band so do keep us posted and congrats again! :-)
Continued progress and all the best!
PS If that's the Jam Cave it's definitely coming together beautifully!
Oh wow. I just found out that I shouldn’t expect to get rich on this gigging deal. The bass player made a comment that out of his time gigging he has maybe been able to cover the cost of new strings. Man, burst my bubble. 😂😢
LoL yeah gigging isn’t always as glamorous and lucrative as people think! I’ve had many $0 and very low-paying events on tour too. They say that they’re paying you with “exposure” but somehow my landlords never accepted “exposure” for my rent payment. 😂
Couldn't agree more with all that @Chelsea said. Especially this ...
They say that they’re paying you with “exposure” but somehow my landlords never accepted “exposure” for my rent payment. - Chelsea
So true! Ha! lol #FACTS
As I photographer early on there was a lot of "we'll credit your name for exposure" which is pretty much the same thing. Ugh Was tough navigating around it for a while knowing there was always someone willing to do it free. I knew improving the quality of my work would change all that and it did. Now if someone doesn't respect the quality and value of my work and experience I don't waist my time with them.
That said, we all have to start somewhere and the experience and knowledge gained on all those early gigs do eventually pay off in the end, and hopefully lead to gigs/jobs that actually pay fairly.
Congrats David, this is very cool. You should learn a lot from this venture.
@Daphne Turnbull well I have learned a good bit already. I’ve learned 3 new songs I probably would never have tried.
But mainly I’ve learned that Fame can be fleeting. I auditioned and was accepted into group on Sunday and given songs to learn. Then Wednesday over casual conversation the drummer asked me if the lead guitarist had told me about playing the xmas party. I said no, but I heard that they intended to do one. He said it was December 12. My face dropped and I informed him that was the only day for the remainder of the year I was unavailable. My wife told me a month ago to block that date for something bday (60th) related.
So they informed me that evening that I was out as they wanted someone to do that.
Oh well. I learned new songs and how to learn them better, a little how bands (or at least that one) practice, more about my vocal range & changing keys.
God was actually involved in this. He knows why I’m into playing the guitar and it’s not to be stressed out learning a bunch of songs quickly. He also knew that yesterday, at the time I would have been leaving to go to rehearsal, my Dad would pass out and be in distress and go to the ER And that I needed to be here to assist him to see what has happened before. Now I know for next time.
BTW I brought Dad home yesterday from hospital and he’s back to being himself. Last time they pretty much determined it was caused by tightening of the anterior carotid artery in the front of his brain. Nothing to be done about it at his age (91 and condition).
So sorry to hear about your experience with the band. They should've mentioned that right away! It sounds like you got some good playing experience though. And I'm so glad that your dad is back to normal. I'm sure that was a really scary moment. You have a great attitude and perspective about all of it.
@Chelsea Amber i really wasn’t actively looking for a band to join. Really just put my name out there a couple years ago just to see what’s up and maybe eventually find someone to jam with.
It all worked out for the best. I learned some songs I probably would never have learned and got more experience transposing keys and also has pushed me to figure out what key for each song I play & sing is best for me.
And since I learned Drop-D tuning that has pushed me even more.
Dad is doing better than he was when we arrived back to Texas (2 months ago) after being gone in Cayman for 7 months.
@David Lieder Those are great learning points! And also great news about your dad. I bet he was overjoyed to have you back.
Let us know how your birthday celebrations go on the 12th!
@David Lieder I am sorry to hear it didn't work out with the band. I am also sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope he is healthy and well.
@David Lieder -everything happens for a reason, and this gig just wasn't meant to be. Probably because something bigger and better is coming. And wishing Dad a speedy recovery-
@David Lieder appears to me you were brave enough to be in the right place at all the Right times... its corny but very true when a door shuts a window opens so Give that dad a BIG HUG and keep working at your craft and you will never have regrets....😁
@David Lieder
Glad to hear that your dad is doing well and sorry to hear about the whole band situation. That said, you definitely have the right attitude about it all so big ups to you for that! Just stay focused, keep moving forward and be grateful for what was learned from it all. It's always the best thing to do.
All the best and continued progress my friend! :-)
