Started playing with a group ... yikes!

Hello everyone,

I recently (three weeks ago) started playing with a group of guitar enthusiasts. Here's my issue ...

I can't keep up with my strumming!

I thought I was okay with strumming at home, but getting together with others, my skill just goes to crap!

Any suggestions, comments, pats on the back, shoulder's to cry on ...?

GD

Songs have been Ring of Fire, Handle me with Care, House of the Rising Sun, Roll Over Beetoven, etc.

This is great Greg. This is exactly the best way to get better on guitar. Playing with other people exposes weak areas and gives you a way to learn new things firsthand. You've got the first step down here... you've identified a weak area. Now we just have to focus on that weak area for a good chunk of time. If you haven't started The Strumming Dr. course yet, I would recommend going through it. It's not just about strumming but timing too. I had the same experience as you multiple times. Playing in your room by yourself is pretty easy. It's kind of like singing in the shower. It sounds great! But when you get around other people where the tempo and time are dictated by an outside force, it can be tough to get control over those areas. Give the 1st module of The Strumming Dr. a shot (if you haven't already done so) and let us know how it goes.
