Being More Creative with my Playing
The last 2 years, I did the 1 Riff a Day Challenge put on by She Shreds Media. Here is some info on it from past years. In past years, it was in January. This year, they moved it to March. This means I have time to prepare and think about what I want to do. In the past, I would post videos of what I was working on at the time. Or if got an idea, I would put something together and post it. For example, last year, I was working on power chords and palm muting. I posted several videos of me working on both techniques. and I often repeated myself. One day , I got inspired and posted a video of me playing Amazing Grace. This year, I want to be more deliberate about what I want to do and use the time to go after a goal. I am thinking that I either want to use the time to start working on songwriting and write a song or 2. The other idea is to use the time to get better at coming up with riffs. Anyone have advice on being more creative with my playing? Or what to learn so I can use the time to write a song or two? Or idea number 3 is to use the time to put together a song or two I can sing and play.
I decided to not worry about a theme or a goal and just post what I felt like each day. Many people posted progress videos or videos of them improvising. I ended up doing something similar. I I did a lesson on minor pentatonic riffs right before the challenge started and I used that lesson a lot. I feel like I became a lot more comfortable improvising over a scale. However, I feel like I have a lot to learn.
