the session will be recorded for those who cannot attend the zoom but are interested in the topics. if there is enough interest in conflicting time zones (such as US and Australia) i can schedule a second time slot.

these will likely run for at least 6 to 8 weeks, maybe longer depending on the group's interest. the zoom meetings will be scheduled for 2 hours, but only 1 hour is planned. the remaining hour is left open in case a session runs a little long and to leave time for questions, the overall structure will be roughly 50% instructional and 50% hands-on, although the first session will probably be 75% instructional. i will provide materials (images, guitar pro files, etc.) a week in advance.

the response to the previous posts and the discussions during the zoom practice sessions revealed the following topics are what the group is most interested in learning:

  • basic music theory review: most participants have little to no music theory experience or still have questions regarding some of the basics.

  • transposing keys: many are interested in learning how to transpose a song from one key to another, including how to determine the new key of a song when using a capo.

  • fretboard geometry: many feel lost navigating the fretboard and are interested in learning the geometry of common intervals.

  • how to solo: there was considerable interest in learning how to solo over a chord progression.

  • how to write or modify a song: there was some interest in learning how to write music, although the majority of the group felt this was would require advanced skills.

if there is a topic you'd like covered but don't see listed, leave a comment.

This sounds fun. I keep meaning to learn more about theory and soloing.
