Helene's Guitar Journey
So it continues: March 3, 2025:
As I've previously mentioned, I was taking 1:1 in person lessons with another great teacher, Eric Ross. His background is JAZZ but moved here from Wisconsin and is teaching here in Ottawa. I like his approach and he is a great teacher. I have built a lot more confidence working with him. I have learned / been exposed to new tools like GarageBand, IRealPro and using YouTube to learn new songs, the fretboard, 7th chords, diatonic scales and so much more. I am really not interested in gadgets other than the basic stuff. I just want to play guitar lol! At the same time, I have been trying to work on the Strumming Dr. course, continue the CAGED course and still have not even started the FingerStyle Course that I purchased a long time ago. Hence, I have put my 1:1 in person lessons on pause until the summer or fall to focus on the GuitarFam stuff and participate more actively on the LiveStreams etc. I guess time will tell if it's the right approach or not. ๐
Here is what I am currently working on.
-Strumming Dr. Module 4; 16th notes
-Bar chords - last module chord extensions that I go back to over and over again in hopes it will click in at some point
-CAGED Course Module 2 - C notes on guitar; Octave Center; Caged w C Major (all of which is pretty much a review for me)
-I've chosen songs in the past that I have never posted. Here are the three, I have chosen to hopefully have the courage to post on this progress journal in the next month. We will see:
1. Against the Wind : Bob Seger
2. Crazy Love: Van Morrison
3. The Way you Look Tonight : Jerome Kern
-I listened to the LiveStream from end of February (I was on the beach in Siint Maarten) so had to wait till I got back! ๐
Thanks for the update @Helene I think it is great to learn from as many sources as possible. I think one of the main keys for you will be execution on those songs you mentioned. ;) Can't wait to hear them.
