speed bumps

if you've read my posts before, you know i love to pick one song that is way above my current pay grade and spend a year (give or take) learning it. while i work on other things over the year, the yearly song takes precedence over all other lessons/songs. one problem with this approach is the significant risk of picking something that is too difficult to learn given one's current skill set.

while this year's song has a lot of new techniques to master, what makes the toughest spots in the song tough is the sheer speed of a few measures.

today i hit a milestone. after 5 months of practice and an hour of warming up i let-er-rip on the fastest half-measure of the song... sextuplet 32nd notes. at the target speed of 66bpm, that works out to an equivalent speed of 792 notes per minute, or a little over 13 notes per second. i was not able to repeat the success, but breaking thru to the target speed is a huge boost... just a few more plateaus to go... next to get it to 100% reliably, then 100% speed reliably with the rest of the song, then to automatic. this is the toughest 1.4 seconds in the song.

now, to get the descending bit up to the same speed... another tough second.

What you’re doing is above my pay grade, but props to you for pushing forward on what’s sounds Uber challenging!
