"Stuff Happens"

Sometimes things are beyond our control as I found out this past, Friday no matter how bad I want to learn to play guitar. Normally I don't post on social media but to me this is more than that, that's why it's called Guitar Fam !!

I just broke an almost 6 month streak of two hour a day practice sessions because of an overnight medical procedure that used anesthesia and a tube stuck up an artery in my right hand.

Funny the first thing I asked after I woke up and Dr, spoke to me was 1. Can I still fly ? 2. Can I play guitar with my right hand strumming. Wrapped up in tape and a brace !! How dumb, think I was still high.

Dr I see is a former Air Force pilot and we have known each other a long time. He told me yes I was good to fly but had to wait a week or so. His exact words on strumming with right hand on guitar was, HELL NO don't do anything with that right hand and make that artery start bleeding for at least three or four days and mess up my work!!

When I got home the next day I tried just putting bar chords on with left hand and watching music theory videos and the CAGED course to do better on the fretboard moving chords, being exhausted and tired just didn't work out.

If I wasn't a beginner I would have maybe understood a little bit of the videos, hangover of anesthesia said no your brain is not functioning right now :) So had to shut that down.

I did accomplish one thing laying in the hospital bed before the procedure that I should have done months ago and that was I took advantage of the Private Lesson Packs with Nate. Didn't know if I was going to have to stay longer or not so while my mind was still working ordered them before sale ended.

I know with Nate's help I will get a better handle on everything.

I read several of the members mistake posts they made in 2023 and ditto on all of them except the equipment. When I can get past beginner status at some point I will start spending money on that too. Right now I am hanging onto my inexpensive amp and guitar. Although I did fall in love with a PRC at Guitar Center for over 3 grand. I will let Nate tell me when I am ready to buy it :)

Thanks for letting me share and I know my issue for past few days is nothing compared to some of the other members who have issues and won't be able to play for a lot longer. At least I will be able to start practicing again in a day or so when the brace comes off. I look at it as I probably needed a few days to let tendons, fingers etc. recover.

One last downside when you can't practice, don't make up for it listening to SRV or your favorite artist at full volume on your ear buds like I started to do. Wishing I could play like that. Don't want to lose my hearing too :)

Stay Warm and Safe,

Danny

I hope my post helps you on your journey.

I don't consider myself to be advanced, but I've played long enough to have made just about every mistake in the book.
