Paul's Guitar Fam Cover Song Challenge
So, a little introduction here. I've been trying to learn the guitar since I was a teenager. I tried to be self-taught as I never clicked with tutors that were around at the time. I wanted to learn to play real guitar music not three blind mice. That didn't go well but at some point I came across Nate on Youtube and then signed up for the guitar system, the blues system and then followed him to guitarlessons. com as it was initally and now here. As you can probably tell from the fact I've followed Nate with everything he has done since, I definitely clicked with his teaching style. But, there's always been things that get in the way so I will always get to a certain point and then practice drops off and repeat that cycle every 6 months or so. But, I'm determined to keep going even if I only get a little further in my journey each time.
With that though I have never really been able to play a full song, which is what playing guitar is all about. So, when I saw the video for the Guitar Fam cover challenge, I thought that sounds like a really good motivation for me to keep going. So, I picked my 3 songs for this:
Three Little Birds by Bob Marley
Love The Way You Lie by Eminem & Rhianna
Pretty Fly For A White Guy by The Offspring
All 3 are songs that I enjoy and will hopefully be able to play by the end of 2023.
I'm going to work through them in that order as they should progress in order of difficulty and help me to focus on a few different things at each stage.
I'm going to look at the following as a timetable for trying to have them complete by:
Three little birds - by end of March
Love The Way You Lie - by end of July
Pretty Fly For A White Guy - by end of December
If I get through them quicker than that then great but I always work best with a deadline so I'm going to start with those. Hopefully, I can achieve that and be playing at least 3 songs by the end of this year.
Well, I was hoping to be able to post a video of me playing 3 little birds by this point. But that won't be happening just yet. After a lot of regular practice during February and feeling good about where my playing was going, I came down with a horrible virus that hit me really hard through March, to the point that I was barely able to do anything let alone practice guitar.
So, there's been a bit of a set back, but today I had my first "practice" in over a month. I didn't really focus on anything in particular, I just wanted a guitar in my hands and to play about. It felt good to be playing again. So, hopefully I can get back into my regular practice routine and have a video to post here pretty soon.
