Merlin's Guitar Journey
Entry 1 - A missed opportunity
Hello hello ๐
I've finally decided to create a personal progress thread. Not sure whether I'll be posting many videos or just use this as sort of a diary. Maybe a bit of both.
In the last few weeks I've been really divided and I'm still not sure what to focus on. On one hand I love rhythm guitar and playing songs. So this year I've been learning lots of songs, mainly on the acoustic guitar and that's been a lot of fun. On the other hand I really love the Blues and want to play Blues lead guitar. However improvising is something that doesn't really feel natural to me. I've learned a number of licks and I'm trying to use them as best as I can. But when I'm improvising I rarely ever feel in the zone where I don't have to think about what to play. It almost feels like a constant mental challenge and I'm thinking more than feeling ... Maybe that's something that will come over time.
A few weekends ago my best friend got married and almost put me on the spot to play at his party in front of nearly 100 people ๐ I would have played with a singer (as I can't sing to save my life ๐) and she is awesome but we never rehearsed together and it would have been very on the fly. It also wouldn't have been my own guitar so that probably would have been a challenge (bad excuse I know haha). In the end however we didn't play as there was so much going on that we didn't even find the time to sneak in 2 songs. I was kinda relieved but now I wish we had played a tune.
At least I realized that I should learn some more party songs. That way I'd be better prepared if a situation like that ever came up again.

Great job Merlin and cool idea with the jam tracks. Also great to see you sharing your playing as well. Looking forward to seeing your progress as I pop in every so often. All the best! ๐
