3 Introduce Yourself

Not sure where to place this, it has been a while since I've posted here

not quite sure where this should go.

I guess I got a bit distracted and lost, for 2025, I'm trying to fix that.

So, maybe a brief re-intro, wife and i are currently living in north central Arizona, moved here about 3 years ago from So Cal. We're both Retired.

After we moved, a couple of our grown kids followed and moved in. Circumstances. We still have one married kid in So Cal, so we occasionally visit over there. Here, It's a full house. (I had a music room. now grown kids occupy. you do what u need to when needed eh?) Hard to find a practice area to be truthful.

Its been a while since i last posted, while it contains intro stuff, also has intended practice routines and...

...well for lack of a better word, i'm admitting to some 'bog'-ups' or wrong trails followed and got lost in a dark 'bog'. super easy to follow ‘bright/shinys' and get lost and just wander.

i completed a beginning fingerstyle course in early 2024, and started into the next level intermediate fingerstyle course.

at some point, i took a sidestep to pick up power chords. Had Learned bars in my teens, but never saw or learned about power chords. 🤔

I Lost momentium. But I did pick up some music theory, then followed some bright/shiny fake promises and got lost down some wormhole stuck in a bog... got sorta lost. Again. It's easy really, not any rudder I guess.

So now its 2025.

I think i have finally found myself and am simplifying. back to basics.

I currently have a CAGED and a Circle of 5ths books on the side, (fretboard actually slowly coming along). takes a while to get shapes truely under my fingers, so no hurry there. Considering Nate's caged course after Strum doc.

Working ion strumming doc class, it seems solid and with overview, and patience now in my expections. this should improve my timing and rhythm to where i am happier with them.

after warmups, im spending 10 or so minutes working on alt-picking, also some with string skipping. improve on pick precision. i figure an honest 3 months for strumming improvements.

And repertoire building and management improvements. I dont always remember pieces I’ve learned, i have found. Much to my embarrassment, I forgot how to play Freight train and Streets of London. (!!)(Blackbird, i learned a couple decades ago. but the other 2, i THOUGHT i had down). Um For back info, all 3 of these songs were part of the beginning fingerstyle course i had completed. Ok, fixing it, and need to figure out how to MAINTAIN learned repertoire. (And remember what it is i've even learned already lol.)

so, Im simplified down to basics, and move fwd, a few details to figure out.

Playing my guitar, makes me happy, clears the dark clouds when they gather.

simple, just stick with my guitar-my (sometimes) best friend and chase my happy 😊

Hi Allan, welcome to the fam. You will have a great time here. As someone who was born on the outskirts of north London. Ralph mc tells streets of London is a song that I would love to learn someday. Any tips or help would be very much appreciated. I have asked @Nate Savage if we could have a lesson on this, when I completed this years guitar fam survey. 🤞
