My strange but effective practice routine

In my 30s I urged to learn oil painting so I used a practice routine used in China, Germany, and Russia.

Basically it is based on milestones, not time frame. And as a result I became very good at oil painting to the point I started to teach to small groups. However, my passion has always been learning the blues. So I divorced fine art and began dating the blues. I got even more excited when years back I discovered the videos and courses from Nate (yes, God answers prayers)

So now I aim to learn this fantastic guitar genre using the practice routine as I used in fine art. Sounds weird, uh? Lol.

For example: in module 1 Nate introduces 3 chords in the key of A (which are A, D, and E)

So my first practice routine my goal is to properly finger the I chord by strumming it, removing my fretting hand, count to three, then finger it again correctly, and strumming it without any fuzzing noice and without me looking at my hands.

It may take 10 minutes or an hour .... But I do not stop until I see a realistic closeness towards my goal. I do this just before I go to bed, that way I don't have to worry about how long the practice session lasts. If (in my case) I practice earlier, there will definitely be interruptions.

To me it does not matter if it takes a day, week, or a month .... I stick to it until I perfect that tiny goal .... Then I repeat the same thing for the next chord, and so on.

Each practice session ends when my expertise is way better than when I started the practice session.

One very important thing is (as Nate emphasized) to practice very very slowly... Accuracy is more important than perceived fast progress.

Each section ends when I feel a noticeable improvement from my level at the start. Only after I am pleased with 4 consecutive practice sessions, regardless of days in between, then I move on to the next concept that Nate presents.

This technique makes for longer time to finish a module, but at the end technical execution of concepts are more self satisfying.

I no longer need to look at my fretting fingers when fretting those 3 chords. And I can change between those 3 chords easily by making sure I keep my fore finger on the third strings, which it is where it remains regardless of which of those 3 chords is played.

Although I am mastering concepts at turtle speed level, at the end I will have reached my goal.

Right now, any first grader can play the blues 100 times better than me. Honestly.

But my faith in the Nate Method and my practice sessions will eventually and joyfully land me an awesome hobby as a blues player.

One last thing: I pretty much gave a shot at all the major blues courses online, and trust me on this: none of them are as effective as Nate's course (and no, he is not paying me to say that šŸ˜‚) ... They don't even come close .... It is so good that I told God not to bother me with death until I complete this course 🤣)

I just wanted to share my two cents.

Thanks for reading.

Forgive post's length.

Long live the blues!!!
