Fingerstyle at Jam
Today I participated in a semi monthly Acoustic Jam Group that I have been involved with the past 3 years or so.
Today, since I’m spending so much time on fingerstyle, i played 3/4 of the songs fingerstyle. And since I just started using a thumb pick the past week I used it on all of them. I used many different patterns and had to do it on the fly as I haven’t played the songs in a while. It was fun figuring out the time signature of songs that I didn’t know while trying to determine which picking pattern to use and also playing chord progressions I hadn’t practiced as well; all at the same time.
the Thumbpick is taking a bit of getting used to and it’s messing with many of the songs I already know and play. But they are coming around.
@David Lieder Cool man! This is a great way to get a lot better a lot faster. Ahhh... the Tommy camp converted you over to a thumbtack? It took me about a year to get used to using a thumbtack, but I was pretty inconsistent with it. It would have been much faster if I would have just committed to it right from the start.
Playing church and cover songs with Chelsea gives me the same experience that you are describing David. Coming up with or deciding on patterns that fit on the fly is great.
