Favourite Motivation Brain Hack

The final lesson of the Guitar Fam Practice Plan is all about staying motivated. What are your favourite brain tricks to move forward when you don't feel like it?


My goal is to practice 30 minutes every day, but sometimes I feel tired or my to-do list for the day is way too long.


My favourite motivation hack is what I like to call the 2-minute rule. When I don't feel like picking up the guitar, I start a timer and decide that I'll just practice for 2 minutes. After that I'll give myself permission to stop, but so far I always go over those 2 minutes because it's easier to keep going once I've already started. It's the law of inertia applied to my brain! :)


And if I truly need to stop after a few minutes (due to my schedule and/or bedtime), I choose not to beat myself up. A few minutes is better than zero! I can feel proud of myself for showing up.
