"Deep River Blues"

Download the Jam Track

Here is another bucket list fingerstyle song of mine. It took me a while to get this one down, and it was pretty challenging. I really love this song and have always wanted to learn how to play it, so I’m excited to share it with you. The TAB is here for you as you work your way through this.

You will find that most guitar players have different variations or versions of this song. In this lesson, we will cover three different variations. Once you learn these, you should be able to figure out variations from other players and even come up with your own.

It may take you quite a while to get this down to where you can play it cleanly all the way through, but that’s okay. It requires a fairly high level of playing, so you will be working on a lot of foundational fingerstyle skills. If you have any questions, you can email us at support@guitarfam.com or schedule a personal private 1-on-1 lesson with me. The first one is complimentary, so there is no risk. Don’t forget to share this lesson with someone you know who is into fingerstyle guitar.

Hi Nate, I am really enjoying your instructional video and TAB for “Deep River Blues”. Your style of instruction has such clarity and I appreciate that you have provided several variations on the main theme of this song. I have a few other songs to suggest for your instructional offerings - “The Ice Miner“ by Leo Kottke and Jorma Kaukonen’s versions of “Hesitation Blues“ and “Death Don’t Have No Mercy”. Thanks again for the great lesson. John G., Virginia Beach, VA
